A very real article
If you are reading this article, then you are either someone who is struggling with eating healthy, achieving a weight loss goal or just being fitter. So below are a few common things you no doubt will have come across that can make life a little trickier if the goal is optimal health.
Being singled out by family and friends if you don’t eat what they eat. This is probably the toughest situation to be in because it can have quite a substantial mental impact. You will feel like you are ruining it for everyone else and you may even feel like you are being out of order. When it comes to visiting relatives or having people over, it can be quite tricky. We never recommending neglecting your family at any point, it’s about being smart and choosing the right things. But this situation can throw a lot of people off because a lot of folk still believe in one extreme or the other, there is no in-between. Once you find that in-between, life becomes so much easier because you can still enjoy time with family and eat some of your favourite foods.
Coming from a household where Asian food is eaten on a regular basis. Eating typical Asian foods on a daily basis can make things quite difficult if weight loss is the goal. Oil and butter are two of the main culprits in many Asian dishes. As oil and butter are very low volume, meaning it doesn’t fill you up, it’s very easy to consume quite a lot of this without realising. Healthy fats are required in the diet, but they are quite high in calories – which is why people avoid them. When they shouldn’t.
Each gram of fat is around 9 calories
1 tablespoon of olive oil is around 120 calories
What ends up happening is that people quit cold turkey when they want to ‘diet’. They quit the chapatis, the rice, the carbs, the curry and live off salads and the odd chicken breast. This is a sure-fire way to fail.
Being uncomfortable going to the gym, this mainly applies to female. Either due to culture or lack of confidence – both which are totally understandable. This is something we can come across on a daily basis and we take great pride and joy in helping those who want to lose weight and get fit in the comfort of their own home or even in the outdoors!
Having an un-supporting spouse. This is something that can really get someone down and something we come across on a daily basis also. It is a shame to see, but we can’t comment too much on this as it is very personal. But nonetheless, a very common issue we come across.
Wedding season! Let’s add some humour here. Let’s face it, wedding season has everyone up in arms. All the food, house visits, fried foods, sweet treats and of course – the wedding food. But you’d be very surprised to learn that you can still enjoy this time of year whilst being healthy. Although if you’re one of the more unfortunate ones that has 101 cousins and relatives all over the UK, then you’ll be attending more events, in which case, all the best to you!
“You’re 25 now, you should be getting married”. What then ensues is panic, feeling judged, and the fear of not being attractive enough to marry yet. This can then result in the person going on a crash diet, failing and feeling miserable. Marriage is a sensitive topic on its own, but what comes with it, is another cause for concern when it comes to health and fitness. A lot of ladies come to us when its wedding season and I would say 80% of the time, they have tried some sort of crash diet already and feel like they have no hope. It breaks our heart seeing this, but in a way, give us great joy too because we can then do something about it and help them!
We have to be real. There is a difference between cultures and backgrounds and this can impact on your own mental and physical wellbeing. Just thought I would put this out there and highlight a few things we have come across.
